Birchwood Camp welcomes Brent and Liz Hoffman as the Camp Host Couple. They joined Birchwood Camp in April 2010. Brent is originally from Pennsylvania. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Family Studies from Messiah College in Grantham, PA and a Master’s of Divinity from Alliance Theological Seminary in Nyack, NY. Liz is originally from Oregon. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Arts from George Fox University in Newberg, OR and her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Alliance Theological Seminary in Nyack, NY. Brent and Liz met at Salem Alliance Church in Salem, OR where Brent was serving as an intern. Right after the honeymoon they drove from Oregon to New York in about a week. This year they celebrated their 11th Anniversary.
They have a variety of life experiences including: farming, yard work, diversified maintenance, serving as president of a housing co-op board, catering and food service, coordinating events and volunteers, management, higher education administration and teaching on the college/graduate level, 2010 Census work locally and in remote parts of AK, etc. The bulk of their experience has been in education. While in NY both held director level positions. Brent coordinated Field Education and Chapels at Alliance Theological Seminary. Liz worked as a Career Counselor and taught career development and communication classes at Nyack College and the Alliance Graduate School of Counseling.
After spending 10 years in NY working in education, they decided to come to AK for what they thought would be a summer, God clearly had other plans. Last summer they were dog sitting for a couple in Girdwood, AK who went overseas to adopt a child. Brent and Liz fell in love with AK so much they decided to stay. They spent about a year in Girdwood before moving up to serve at Birchwood Camp.
The Hoffman’s are passionate about equipping and developing leaders, facilitating experiences that lead to growth and transformation and encouraging others to grow in their relationship with Jesus. They look forward to providing hospitality and sharing their gifts with you!
