Adventure Canoe Camp

The Birchwood Adventure Camp will be exploring God’s handiwork through a 20-mile hike in the beautiful Alaskan backcountry. The campers will hike 20 miles over the course of 3 nights.  While prior camp experience is not required, basic physical fitness is required, such as the ability to carry a 15- 30 lb pack through the backcountry.     During the hike, the campers will learn how to safely navigate the Alaskan backcountry, sharpening skills such as land navigation, outdoor living skills, and proper packing for a multiday hiking trip.  The hike will follow the Williwaw Lakes–Long Lake Trail in the Chugiak Mountains.  The first day, campers will stay at the Woodlanders campsite to practice the backcountry skills needed for the hike.

The campers will be guided by experienced staff, who are all first-Aid/ CPR certified, including one staffer who  is a Wilderness First Responder (WFR). This staffer has specialized training in treating injuries in the backcountry.   Furthermore, the Birchwood  staff will teach the campers backcountry emergency procedures. The Birchwood staff will also carry a Garmin inReach, which provides daily updates and can be used in emergencies.

This camp is the perfect opportunity for a camper to experience the God through intentional Christian community  and the beautiful Alaskan backcountry.
